American Clay in the News

American Clay Enterprises' American Clay Earth Plasters was selected as one of the products used in the Aspen "Vision House", a newly built, LEED Gold certified home. The Vision House is a 6,682-sq.-ft. state-of-the-art, green-built single-family home with six bedrooms and six-and-a-half baths.

American Clay's Earth Plasters are one of the sustainable interior wall finishes used in the project. The house is constructed using lighter framing and organic material, incorporates geothermal heating to supply hot water and uses solar power for heat and electricity. Additional features include concrete roof tiles and LED lights.

The house is part of an ongoing project sponsored by Green Builder Magazine, which has built several similar houses around the country; American Clay has participated in two of them. The goal of the project is to build new homes or retrofit existing ones with green features in locations where building and construction conferences occur. The houses usually serve as educational exhibits for builders, building materials suppliers, and real estate agents. The "Vision House" is intended to demonstrate how even large, upscale homes can be environmentally friendly. The house has been through several reviews as a part of the USGBC's LEED program to verify its green characteristics.
